Luxury Hotels / Bernini Palace Hotel

Overview

Originally a 14th century “palazzo”, the Hotel Bernini is built according to the classic Florentine architectural style, with string-course cornices along the walls and wooden shutters giving it a charming antique flavour. Period chests of drawers, magnificent watches and extremely valuable pendulum clocks, paintings and antique prints create a warm, sumptuous atmosphere.

Location

Located in Florence’s historic centre, right behind Piazza della Signoria - just a stone’s throw from the Uffizi and Florence’s main historical attractions.

Accommodation

The 78 rooms, including the suites, have been recently refurbished and are fitted out with the best, most up-to-date mod-cons.

History & Awards

The oldest news about the Hotel goes back to 14th century when the building belonged to the old family “Pera”, presumed ancestor of the family Peruzzi, the most powerful Florentine financiers with enormous interests in Europe. Towards the middle of the last century, this building, infused with a magical Medici atmosphere, housed the plush "Albergo dello Scudo”. Between 1865 and 1870 it was also the seat of the Parliament of the young Kingdom of Italy. After this prestigious interlude, the name of the hotel was changed several times, once even housing the famous Doney restaurant.
