Country House Hotels / Gidleigh Park

Overview

Kay and Paul Henderson started Gidleigh Park in 1977 without any previous experience in running restaurants or hotels, but set out to establish a place where they, themselves would like to stay and eat. Now celebrating their 25th anniversary, they have created one of the most highly rated small luxury hotels and restaurants in England.

Location

Gidleigh Park is located in the SouthWest corner of England in Devon - and situated within Dartmoor, a National Park boasting the largest and wildest area of open country in the south of England. The hotel is on a half mile of the North Teign River, in 45 acres of mature beech and oak forest and gardens, just a few short miles away from the charming, ancient village of Chagford.

Facilities

The hotel has 15 bedrooms, set in 45 acres of riverside and woodland gardens in Dartmoor National Park. There are twelve bedrooms in the main wing of the house, two in the north wing which was converted from a chapel. There are also two bedrooms in a charming thatched cottage, The Pavilion, 350 yards from the hotel. All of the bedrooms have the amenities expected in a luxury hotel, e.g. private bathrooms, television, direct dial telephones, radios, Frette bathrobes, Molton Brown toiletries etc.

Impeccable Service and Award-Winning Cuisine

The hotel and restaurant are run by a personable, energetic and talented team who have each been there for many years. The restaurant at Gidleigh Park is one of the best in England, with two Michelin stars, 5 out of 5 rosettes in the AA guide, and 8 out of 10 points in the Good Food Guide.
