Overview Americans Kay and Paul Henderson started Gidleigh Park in 1977. They had no previous experience in running restaurants or hotels, but set out to establish a place where they, themselves would like to stay and eat. Now elebrating their 25th anniversary, the hotel and restaurant are regarded as amongst the finest in England. Chef Micheal Caines Chef Michael Caines trained with Raymond Blanc, Bernard Loiseau, and Joel Robuchon before becoming head chef of Gideligh Park in 1994 and he is now regarded as one of the most innovative British chefs of his generation. Menu Menus change with the seasons. The wine list is considered one of the five best restaurant wine selections in Britain.
Awards Gidleigh has collected innumerable awards and honours. It is one of 22 British hotel members of Relais et Châteaux, and one of five designated Relais Gourmand in the 2003 Guide. Michelin Guide 2003: 3 red turrets hotel rating, and 2 stars for the restaurant. One of eleven British restaurants rated 2 or 3 stars. AA Guide 2003: 3 red stars for the hotel, and the maximum rating of 5 rosettes for the restaurant, one of the six most highly rated restaurants in Britain. First ever Wine List of the Year Award in 1997. One of four British restaurant members of Traditions & Quality 2003, an association of 112 of the very best restaurants in the world. Good Food Guide 2003: one of twelve British restaurants rated 8 to 10 points. |
