Overview

At Le Poussin at Parkhill, the emphasis is upon creating a 'home from home'. Nestling in acres of parkland and pastures with a far reaching view of the Forest beyond, guests are encouraged to while away their time in a totally relaxing, stress-free environment, where understated elegance is of the utmost importance.

Location

A stay at Parkhill is the perfect excuse to discover the many attractions of Lyndhurst, capital of the New Forest, and the surrounding area. There are many famous locations such as Beaulieu, home of the National Motor Museum, picturesque Bucklers Hard, and the waterside community of Lymington, with its atmosphere of sloping, cobbled streets and Georgian houses, which run shoulders with antique and curio shops.

History

Originally established as a Hunting lodge in the 13th Century, Parkhill was rebuilt by the Duke of Clarence in the 1740's as a beautiful home for royalty. Queen Victoria and her family, Lady Isabella of Spain, Lady Phillipa of Portugal and poets T.S. Elliot and Alfred Lord Tennyson have all been associated with Parkhill. Established in 1880 as a boys school, during the war the house was used as a control centre for the 'D' Day landings. Shortly after the war, Parkhill was opened as a hotel and is now home to the renowned Michelin-starred Le Poussin Restaurant - a "Restaurant With Rooms" - where relaxed comfort without the formality of a hotel is coupled with great food. This year the AA promoted Le Poussin At Parkhill to Red Star Status, putting it in Britain's top two hundred places to stay category.

Facilities

Le Poussin provides a choice of 19 en-suite bedrooms and suites to ensure guests experience nothing short of total comfort, relaxation and luxury. Lovingly restored antiques grace every room, complimentary Molten Brown toiletries complete every bathroom and, to refresh the senses, there are breathtaking vistas over manicured parkland or courtyard gardens from every window. The best bedrooms have new bathrooms from double cast iron classics, to new style double ended heritage suites, to a stunning double jacuzzi hydrotherapy bath in its own sunken room.
