Eco-lodges & Safaris / Paperbark Camp

Overview

Architect designed with both the environment and guest in mind, Paperbark Camp is a beautiful and comfortable base from which to explore the local area and to enjoy the tranquillity of this natural Australian bushland setting.

Location

Located on the banks of the Currambene Creek, Jervis Bay, famous for its premium dive and snorkeling locations with dozens of unique dive sites in the crystal clear waters, Paperbark Camp is 200kms south of Sydney.

Accommodation and Facilities

The ten unique tents at Paperbark Camp have private en suite facilities, comfortable queen or twin beds, pure wool doonas, insect screens and solar powered lighting. They're also stylishly furnished with locally handcrafted bush furniture. The Gunyah (aboriginal for meeting place, or place of shelter) is at the heart of the camp, a chic space built high off the ground to enjoy the sea breeze and a wonderful position amongst the tree tops. The 'Gunyah' provides a central communal area for eating and relaxing with outside dining on the verandah during the warmer months, and in the colder months an open fire creates a cosy atmosphere for reading, playing games or sharing travel adventures with other guests.

Paperbark Camp is very much an activities based camp centred around nature. The local area also offers a diverse array of activities. Guests can take canoes for picnicking and fishing on the creek, see the famous Jervis Bay dolphins, a seal colony and penguins off Bowen Island, and whales on their way north in May/June and south in Oct/Nov. Golf is available on the picturesque Vincentia Golf Course overlooking the Bay, and Wreck Bay Walkabouts give visitors an insight into our Aboriginal culture - campfire talks, spotlight wildlife walks and bush tucker tours.

Ecotourism

Paperbark Camp is Eco-tourism at its best, being a low impact, niche-market venture that adheres to the principles of ecologically sustainable tourism. The original landscape was carefully cleared by hand, so that delicate ecosystems, natural flora and birdlife have been preserved. No major earthworks or clearing were done. All toilet waste and waste water is pumped off the site to protect the pristine Currambene Creek, which now forms part of the Jervis Bay Marine Park.
